Win! A year-long paid beauty internship
How does a year-long salaried internship in the beauty industry sound?
Interested? Well, read on.
ELLE is looking for a new beauty talent and the final candidate will be awarded a 12-month job, split between PZ Cussons Beauty (owners of St Tropez, Charles Worthington and Sanctuary Spa), House PR agency and ELLE magazine.
Your first four months will be within the communications team of PZ Cussons. Under the guidance of the head of PR, Karen Heras-Kelly, you will learn about a global industry worth over £240bn
– working on product development, digital marketing and charity-focused campaigns. You will cut your teeth on high-profile events like London Fashion Week, the Baftas and music festivals.
From there, you will move to House PR, where you will work with lifestyle and consumer brands like St Tropez and T4 live events, and witness the inner workings of life at a fast-track PR agency. You will take part in brainstorms, draft press materials and meet journalists.
Which brings us to the final part of your whirlwind year: four months on the ELLE beauty desk. Here, you will see the industry from the view of the journalist and witness how the products you saw in development, then shadowed through the PR machine, are used within the world’s biggest-selling fashion magazine. ‘You will hit the ground running working on the 2012 ELLE Beauty Awards, attend press launches and contribute to our website and magazine,’ says ELLE beauty director Emma Smith. ‘We guarantee you’ll be kept busy!’
This opportunity could be the catalyst to a whole new career. So what do you need to do to qualify? The first stage is to write a 500-word essay on a brand you admire, explaining why it appeals to you. We’re not talking favourite products here, we want to know what you love about the way a brand portrays itself. You’ll need to submit your entry by clicking on the red button below before 1 November, then our panel will select a shortlist of 20 to come to London for the final stages. But before you get started, we asked some beauty experts to share how they got there…
