Card Aid Graduate Internships 2011
The Charities Advisory Trust (www.charitiesadvisorytrust.org.uk) offers internships for recent graduates, providing valuable experience in the voluntary sector. We are looking for hardworking, committed and lively people to join our young, dynamic team.
The Trust runs two major projects. The first is the Card Aid Christmas card campaign (www.cardaid.co.uk), which raises over £1m for good causes through the sale of charity Christmas cards. This is done through approximately 40 temporary Christmas card shops, open between October and Christmas, and based in London, Cambridge, Oxford, Bromley and Guildford.
Most interns manage the Card Aid shops, a crucial role in directly raising thousands of pounds for good causes. Interns gain valuable experience of managing their own mini enterprise. Responsibility is taken for all aspects of running a shop, including stock control, volunteer management and customer service.
Some interns work in the office in Hampstead, where the different aspects of running a Christmas card campaign are coordinated. The role of the interns will include marketing cards to businesses, and supporting the work of those in the shops. We will also require practical people with strong logistical skills to work in our warehouse in Camden.
The other main project run by the Trust is the Good Gifts Catalogue (www.goodgifts.org), which offers an imaginative approach to giving gifts with a difference. Interns will have a hands-on role in raising funds for a variety of charities, and a chance to gain valuable customer service experience.
Posts can also entail involvement in other aspects of the Trust's innovative and varied work. Interns may learn about fundraising administration, grant giving, initiatives such as the Green Hotel in Mysore, and volunteer management. The office-based posts are more administrative roles, although all interns spend some time in the shops.
Internships offered by the Charities Advisory Trust offer excellent voluntary sector experience, and all our interns can attend seminars on key aspects of the voluntary sector.
All internships last until Christmas. Former graduate interns have gone on to head major UK charities, and the internships are recognised as providing a very good launch pad for a career in the voluntary sector. They are also excellent for those seeking paid experience of the sector, perhaps during a break between university and travelling.
The pay for internships is currently £15,000 p.a. pro rata.
If you want a challenge, we want to hear from you!
